Ara the Beautiful (800 BC)
Around 800 BC, according to legend, Semiramis, Queen of Assyria, became enamored of the Armenian king Ara because of his beauty and decided to marry him. He, however, faithful to his marriage vows, refused her, for he already had a family. She then sent her armies to capture him and bring him to her alive. When her soldiers accidentally killed him in battle, she ordered his body placed atop her castle, beseeching her gods to restore him to life, but to no avail.
