Khanasor Expedition (1897 AD)

Khanasor, a valley on the Turkish-Persian border near the town of Salmast, was the center of the Armenian transport of men and material into Turkey. The Mazrig Kurdish tribe occupied the valley, massacred Armenian villagers, and ambushed Armenian freedom fighters. In order to teach the Kurds a lesson, the Armenians organized an expedition made up of Dashnaks, Hnchaks, and Armenagans, who surrounded the Kurdish tribe and rendered it incapable of any future action against Armenians. Khanasor is considered one of the most important victories of Armenian arms in the struggle for independence.
