Tigran Hamasyan (Trio)

Armenian artist TIGRAN HAMASYAN (Trio) will be performing at Bootleg HiFi in Los Angeles, CA on February 20th, 2014.

Artist Bio:
Although trained as a classical and jazz musician, Tigran Hamasyan draws on a wide range of influences, including Armenian folk music, rock, beatbox, poetry, and more. In early 2015, Nonesuch Records will release MOCKROOT, Tigran’s label debut. This show will be in support of the record release tour, featuring Tigran’s trio with Sam Minaie on bass and Arthur Hnatek on drums. In the past decade, with the release of four critically acclaimed albums and an unceasing touring schedule, Tigran has built up a dedicated international following, as well as accolades from the likes of Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock, and Brad Mehldau. In the words of the Guardian, Hamasyan “is guided by one of [mentor and fan Herbie Hancock’s] most enduring lessons: it’s possible to be a multi-stylistic jazz virtuoso and a groove-powered hitmaker simultaneously and hugely enjoy all of it.” The Times of London said of his most recent release, 2013’s Shadow Theater, “Armenian folk, electronic loops, heavenly voices and indie rock energy vie with Hamasyan’s rippling piano to create a dramatic, deeply melodic music unlike anything else you’ll hear this year.” Born in Armenian in 1987, Tigran has already won major accolades including a 2011 French Grammy Award, first place in the prestigious Thelonious Monk Piano Competition, and the 2013 Vilcek Prize for Creative Promise in Contemporary Music. He currently resides in Erevan, Armenia. He began playing piano at the age of three, and started performing in festivals and competitions when he was 11 years old, winning the Montreux Jazz Festival’s piano competition in 2003. He released his debut album, World Passion, at the age of 18 in 2006. That same year he won the prestigious Thelonious Monk International Jazz Piano Competition. Subsequent albums include New Era (2008), Red Hail (2009), and A Fable (2011), for which he was awarded a Victoires de la Musique (the equivalent of a Grammy Award in France).

Dr. Noune Pashinian Named Medical Honoree

Glendale’s Dr. Noune Pashinian Named Medical Honoree For the Jingle Bell Run/Walk For Arthritis, December 14th 5K Run/Walk Funds Research For A Cure For Arthritis, The Nation’s Leading Cause of Disability

(Los Angeles, CA) – October 30, 2014 – The Arthritis Foundation, Pacific Region, has named Glendale’s Dr. Noune Pashinian as Medical Honoree for the 2014 Jingle Bell Run/Walk for Arthritis. Dr. Pashinian has been practicing Rheumatology and Internal Medicine for 17 years. She graduated with Honors from Yerevan State Medical University, Armenia, and did her Residency in Internal Medicine at Sinai Hospital of Detroit, MI. She completed her Fellowship in Rheumatology at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center/UCLA and received Board Certification in Rheumatology.

Dr. Pashinian practices Rheumatology in Glendale, and is on the staff at Glendale Adventist Medical Center, Glendale Memorial Hospital, and is teaching attending at
Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. She is a Fellow at the American College of Rheumatology and a member of Armenian American Medical Society. Loved by her patients and respected by her colleagues, Dr. Pashinian has written many publications and often speaks for community programs and professional societies.

The Arthritis Foundation expects hundreds to participate in the Los Angeles Jingle Bell Run/Walk this year, on Sunday, December 14th, 2014, starting at 8:00 AM in front of The Alex Theatre, 216 North Brand Boulevard, Glendale CA 91203. The course for the Los Angeles event will pass through The Americana at Brand where participants and families can enjoy the holiday décor and festivities during the event.

Families and friends come in costume and tie jingle bells to their shoelaces and enjoy the Run/Walk, Kid’s Zone, live entertainment and refreshments. Registration begins at 7:00 a.m., and the opening program begins at 7:30 a.m. The timed 5K Run/Walk begins at 8:00 a.m. An awards ceremony will follow at 9:30 a.m. There will be a special “Tot Trot” at 10:00 a.m. for children under 8 years. All participants will receive a t-shirt and medal, with special medals awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners, male and female, in each age category.

Chosen as one of the Most Incredible Themed Races, the 5K route is a fun and festive way to join together with friends and family to help find a cure for the nearly 53 million adults and 300,000 children with arthritis, the nation’s leading cause of disability.

Armenia – Ancient, Yet Attractive

Talking about Armenia we can’t forget about the famous phrase which is “Armenia is an open-air museum.” To visit Armenia it means to travel back in history and feel the spirit of more than 41 centuries. Armenia is rich with its historical churches, monasteries, monuments, and magnificent nature. This is the country which was the first to adopt Christianity as a state religion. Traveling to Armenia you will be surprised with the traditions, culture, religion, arts and crafts, delicious cuisine and sincere hospitality. Most of all, the warmth and friendly manner of the people will make your visit unforgettable. Once you visit Armenia, you will be think of your next visit because one visit will not be enough for you.

There are many attractions in Armenia and one of the most famous recent attractions is the Monastery of Tatev with its newly constructed rope-way. One of the unique features of the monastery is the St. Astvatsadzin 1087 which is built on the rampart and accessed by a steep flight of steps from within the complex. The monumental Saint Poghos Petros, 895/906 is the focal point of the complex and, as the main cathedral of Syunik principality. And of course the breathtaking ropeway, called Wings of Tatev, which is included in the Guinness World Records Book as the longest aerial tramway built in one section. The length of it is 5.7 kilometers and this cableway stretches between Halidzor and Tatev Monastery. It was being built nearly 3 years and now it is one of the top attractions of tourists.

Next attraction is Lover’s Park. It is located on Baghramyan Avenue. It is small but very beautiful and comfortable park. You can spend your time there with your family because it is the best place for children. There are small bridges across artificial small water pools.

Another newly constructed tourist attraction is St Grigor Lusavorich (Illuminator) church in Yerevan. The huge Cathedral is a complex consisting of three churches: the Cathedral (Main Church) with 1700 seats and the Chapels of St. King Tiridates and of Saint Ashkhen the Queen. It is one of the biggest and lightened churches in Armenia.

If you are fond of walking Northern Avenue is a great place to spend the evening. Here you will see modern buildings. It is the most visited streets in Yerevan where young people like to spend their free time. Walking along the Avenue you will see many brand shops and new cafes. If you walk up Northern Avenue you will appear in Liberty Square and see the Opera House. The building was designed by the famous Armenian architect Alexander Tamanian. If you continue walking, you will find Cascade Complex – a giant stairway in Yerevan. Inside the Cascade, underneath the exterior steps are a couple of escalators going all way long of Cascade, where you can see some amazing works of modern art. Also make sure to visit Cafesjian Center for the Arts. At the top of this huge white stairwell you can visit Victory Park which is full of attractions for your kids and you will enjoy the picturesque view of Yerevan and Mount Ararat.

If you walk down Northern Avenue, you will find yourself in the heart of Yerevan that is Republic Square where the Governmental buildings are located. And in the evenings you can enjoy the singing and colorful fountains.
